Paul Baan
Chairman Noaber(*) Foundation

Paul studied architecture and earned his degree in economics at the University of Groningen. Paul his career started at a construction company, where he eventually became director. From 1981 on he and his brother managed the software company Baan Company, where he had several management and executive positions in the internationally growing company. In 1986 he left Baan Company to start a new initiative: the nenburg Group, an investment company. Four years later he, and his wife Mineke Baan-Pas, founded the Noaber Foundation.
The Noaber Foundation is a foundation under Dutch law with a public beneficial goal. The organization consists of two parts. Noaber Philanthropy funds projects by providing donations. Noaber Ventures invests in companies. The common feature of the projects and investments is that they have a solution to a social problem.
In the tradition sense, Noabership has two sides: the demand for help and the offer of help. The risk is creating dependency. They want to break this mutual dependency by applying a new form of Noabership, which promotes autonomy and independence. We do this by acting as a venture philanthropist. This is a form of entrepreneurial philanthropy: methods and techniques from the world of ordinary investing are being used. We live in a world that has become a global village, where people (noabers) live and work together. The Noaber Foundation wants to support this and cooperate. We think the best way this can be done, is in an entrepreneurial way, which creates durability.
